Kitchen fire suppression · Submittal preparation

We catch it before the AHJ does.

Submittal packages for CaptiveAire CORE and TANK — every pipe piece tagged, drawn true to scale, and verified against the controlling design manual before it ships. EngineCore assigns qualified fire-protection reviewers to each project and identifies the responsible reviewer on the final work.

01
Appliance schedule on FP-1 does not match the hood drawing. A fryer appears at position 3 that is not on the schedule.
Caught in review Equipment changed after the hood drawing was issued. Schedule, nozzle count and flow points re-issued to match the built layout.
02
Nozzle type at position 4 is not listed for the appliance shown.
Caught in review Appliance was swapped to a wok range; the nozzle carried over from the prior layout. Corrected to the listed nozzle and coverage re-verified.
03
Manual pull station location and travel distance are not shown.
Caught in review Added to plan view with dimensioned egress-path travel distance.

Three real reasons kitchen suppression packages come back. Each one costs you a resubmittal cycle and a schedule slip. Finding them is the job.

What nobody else hands you

The drawing, the parts list and the calculation cannot disagree.

Every pipe piece is tagged, dimensioned and true to scale. The 30° reviewer view is derived and locked from that same arrangement, so the two can never drift apart. Then installed length is checked against the manufacturer's controlling design manual — cited by revision number — and the sheet reads PASS, or it is not issued as verified.

Evidence / source manifest
  • Controlling design manual — TANK DIM A0029342, June 2026, Rev 25
  • Manufacturer job file — hood sizes and MFP date of record
  • Order application letter — cited by date and page
  • Operating-mode comment — cited by date and page
  • Physical-parts ledger — PIPE-02 / PIPE-03, reconciled to this sheet
  • Issue history — every revision logged with its reason for change

Example sheet, taken from a real single-cylinder TANK arrangement with the client identifiers removed. Every figure above comes out of one model — change a single pipe piece and the developed length, the flow tally, the parts ledger and the reviewer view all move with it.

01 · Scale

Pipe lengths are measurements, not a sketch

Drawn at 1" = 1′ with every piece true to scale, so developed length is something a reviewer can check instead of take on faith.

02 · Locked views

The isometric is derived, not redrawn

The 30° view is generated from the scaled arrangement and locked to it. Two views of one job cannot contradict each other, because there is only one model.

03 · Verification

Installed length checked against the DIM

Installed length against calculation basis, tested to the controlling manufacturer manual at a stated revision. It reads PASS or the package does not ship.

04 · Audit trail

Every number traces to a cited source

The manifest names each source document by date, page and revision. A reviewer with a question can follow it back instead of returning the package to ask.

Piping arrangement & verification
Scaled arrangement, 30° reviewer view, design summary, flow-point legend and source manifest — the sheet above.
PIPE-02 / 03
Physical-parts ledger
Every tagged component as a line item, reconciled against installed units, so the installer's tool bag matches the sheet.
FP-1
Plan view
Hood outline, appliance schedule, nozzle coverage, manual pull station with dimensioned travel distance, K-class extinguisher.
FP-3
Detection & release
Fusible link ratings and locations, detector spacing, cable runs, release module and cylinder placement.

Qualified technical review

Specialized fire-protection review.

EngineCore assigns qualified fire-protection professionals to technical review, piping layouts, and submittal preparation. The responsible reviewer is identified on the work record; qualifications and applicable licenses are matched to the project and jurisdiction.

Whether you are starting a package, working through a technical question, or responding to reviewer comments, bring us the project.

Experience

Specialized knowledge. Practical answers. Complete submittals.

A direct working relationship with the assigned reviewer, supported by EngineCore’s source-linked workflow.

Scope, stated plainly

Does it need a PE stamp?

This is the first question every contractor asks, so here is the answer before you fill out anything.

Usually not. Pre-engineered kitchen suppression systems are listed assemblies. Most jurisdictions accept the manufacturer's factory drawings plus a licensed installer — not a sealed engineering design. Where your AHJ does require a seal, EngineCore identifies that requirement in the first review, before preparation is authorized, and coordinates with your engineer of record.

What EngineCore does

  • Prepare complete, code-correct submittal packages ready to hand to the AHJ
  • Produce a scaled piping arrangement with a derived 30° reviewer view, verified against the controlling manufacturer DIM
  • Cross-check appliance schedules, nozzle listings, coverage and flow points
  • Reconcile a physical-parts ledger against what the drawing actually calls for
  • Assemble cut sheets, UL listings and completed jurisdiction forms
  • Deliver it all under your title block, your sheet numbering and your preparer's name
  • Write the responses when a reviewer returns comments

Outside this scope

  • Seal drawings or act as engineer of record
  • Perform the installation or certify work the reviewer did not witness
  • Pull your permit or submit under your license
  • Promise an approval — that decision belongs to the jurisdiction
How it runs

Three steps, in this order.

The standalone technical review is $99, paid upfront. Submittal preparation is quoted separately.

STEP 01

Send what you already have

Hood drawings, equipment cut sheets, a site photo, a reviewer's comment letter — whatever exists. Incomplete is normal and it is not a problem.

Takes you 5 minutes
STEP 02

We identify the gaps and price the work

A written list of what's missing or inconsistent, whether your AHJ needs a seal, and a fixed quote for the package. That's the $99 review. The findings are yours whether or not you hire EngineCore to build it.

Within 24 hours
STEP 03

You approve; EngineCore builds and verifies the package

Sheets, ledger, cut sheets and forms come back coordinated and submittal-ready, with the calculation reading PASS where applicable. If a reviewer returns comments on our work, EngineCore corrects and re-issues it.

48 hours to 5 business days
Pricing

Technical review first. Preparation quoted.

A single-cylinder line in a convenience store and a multi-hood hospital kitchen are not the same job. EngineCore quotes the actual package after reviewing it. The review has a price — and the review is what tells you the cost of the work.

Technical review
$99
Within 24 hours on business days

A written gap list, a seal determination for your jurisdiction, and a fixed quote for the package. The findings are yours either way — take them and fix it in house if you'd rather. It's a paid review, not a sales call.

And the package itself

Quoted in writing before anything starts.

No hourly billing, no change orders you didn't agree to, and no invoice that arrives larger than the number you approved.

  • Quote Fixed, in writing, before work begins. It comes out of the $99 review, so it's priced against your actual drawings rather than a guess.
  • Turnaround 48 hours to 5 business days, depending on hood count and whether your jurisdiction reviews in house or sends it to a third party. The quote states the date.
  • Rollouts Repeat store formats and multi-site programs get a fixed per-site rate once the first site is verified.
  • Questions Your written technical findings are included in the $99 review.
Included

Revisions until approved — no additional charge

On any package EngineCore signed off and issued to you as final: if a reviewer returns a comment on our work, EngineCore corrects and re-issues it at no cost, for as many cycles as it takes. Two things sit outside that scope, and we identify them before touching anything — changes on your side after issue (equipment swapped, hood drawing revised, an appliance added) and requirements introduced after the fact that were not in effect when the package went out. Those get quoted, not absorbed.

Preparation begins after your quote is accepted and paid, and all required inputs are complete. Jurisdiction response times are outside EngineCore's control and are not included in turnaround. All permit, AHJ, third-party review and submission fees are excluded and paid by the installer. EngineCore prepares and verifies documentation; the approval decision belongs to the authority having jurisdiction.
